  • Mechanical depth
  • No bad options, just bad builds
  • Support hexcrawl, dungeon crawl, and quest-based scenarios
  • Support non-combat solutions and scenarios
  • Avoid needless complications, detail, and excessive simulationism
  • Reward goals, creative solutions, and good roleplay
  • Make loot and equipment useful and interesting, while avoiding loot dependence and gear-based progression
  • Make consumables useful, but avoid “too awesome to use” syndrome
